The Problem

we want to conserve biodiversity with ecological charcoal briquettes which replace conventional charcoal. autonomous electric generator to help the world in the fight against global warming.In Haiti, wood is becoming more and more difficult to find and there is no alternative energy. More than 7 million Haitians therefore depend on wood for their domestic energy needs, which represents more than 75% of energy sources. However, people will not be able to afford the so-called modern energies (based on hydrocarbons or solar energy), which means that they will soon no longer be able to cook their food. Today we come with the only technology capable of transforming unusual agricultural residues into charcoal briquettes. Used in place of conventional charcoal, it overcomes the constraints of wood scarcity caused by increasing deforestation causing unsustainable management of resources. In Haiti alone, more than 32,000 hectares of forest cover are lost each year simply by the production of charcoal. In addition, it is a process with multiple virtues: the cheaper fuel, more efficient, it limits deforestation and even reduces poisoning linked to the combustion of conventional coal. Biochar increases the yield of agricultural soils and participates in the fight against global warming.

Our Proposal

The biomass recovery workshop has a production capacity of 500kg per day. With 500 kg of carbonized biomass per day we reach an annual production of 150 tonnes, in fact: 125 tonnes of ecological charcoal briquettes per year and 25 tonnes of biochar per year. For the moment, the experiment in biochar farming is only carried out at the CACEV farm. Based on our experiences with biochar since April 2018, we see an increase in production of 50 to 80% in the cultivation of black beans compared to the same space used without biochar. Biochar is not only an element that improves the yield of agricultural soils, but it plays an important role in the fight against global warming because it fixes durably CO2 (carbon monoxide) durably in the soil. A family in Haiti consumes an average of 900kg of charcoal per year as a source of energy for cooking. With the 125 tonnes of briquettes produced per year, we are able to meet the needs of more than 135 families per year. If approximately 375kg of ecological briquettes produced can save a tree, then our production allows us to save more than 350 trees per year in Haiti. The workshop also creates jobs, we have 5 employees at the moment at the workshop level. At CACEV clos we hire 3 employees and more 10 temporary or occasional jobs. Work to realize the autonomous electric generator (professional version), it will be a renewable alternative energy source which will also contribute in the fight against global warming.

We Assume that...

1) We assume that our ecological charcoal briquette can replace conventional charcoal

2) We assume that ecological charcoal briquettes can help in the reforestation of Haiti

3) We assume that by fixing the CO2 in the soil in the practice of agriculture with biochar we also fight against global warming

4) We assume that stand alone electric generators can help greatly in the struggle for a neutral climate.

Constraints to Overcome

At the workshop level we face a problem of carbonizer, we hope to improve our artisanal carbonization ovens. for the manufacture of the prototype autonomous electric generator, we need the means to buy the necessary raw materials such as: alternator, electric motor, shaft, shaft coupling, flywheel, ball bearing, etc.

Current Work
