The Problem
Illegal animal trafficking is a globally widespread problem. Local police agencies, as well as international umbrella organizations are trying to tackle this issue in any way possible. In our project, MobileRanger contributes to this cause by providing the means for travelers to gain insights in their purposes when situated in a foreign country. Using our application, traveling individuals will be able to assess items in local shop by just taking a picture of a desired item. The application will return the animal the product originates from together with simplified legal information such that the traveler will gain awareness of their purchase. With our solution, we disrupt the value chain of hunting down and selling animals illegally worldwide. More informed customers will result in less illegal purchases and hence the illegal market will shrink.
