While there exist many different platforms to track where fishing is taking place and subparts of the fish supply chain, processing and trade is a black box especially with several intermediaries and middlemen. This leads to the widespread problem of fish mislabelling so that the fish you ultimately eat in the restaurant or on your dinner table is not the fish you paid for. Our platform aims to integrate an AI based tool and biomarker identification and combine it with a blockchain backed tracking system to better track fish to ensure health and sustainability. We believe tracking fish is a first step to ensuring its sustainable harvesting and safety for consumers.
The are likely to respond to any monetary incentive that restricts mislabelling.
The threat of being caught imposes additional costs on misbehaviour preventing mislabelling of fish
The quality of the cellphone camera itself may be questionable and impact the deployability of the AI based tool.
Cell phones used by supply chain staff will have cameras.
We assume mislabellers are rational and therefore respond to risks and incentives.
The major barrier our technology is addressing is the mislabelling of fish in the supply chain. This will prevent illegal fishing and mislabelling, and will indirectly protect business owners as well as the health of consumers. We plan to create an incentive mechanism that disincentivizes mislabelling and illegal fishing. Technical barriers for the product include the building and deployment of the machine learning algorithm and its deployment with the blockchain and the identification of the biomarker technology.
