Green Adoption

The Problem

One of the reasons we human beings differ from other species is the fact that we use the resources of our surrounding by mining, processing and building smart products that make our life easy. But many of our natural resources are non renewable and we are consuming them faster than we are replacing them. When we mine for resources we are also destroying renewable and nonrenewable resources without laying out ways on how we replace them. This is because the benefit of mining is immediate while the disadvantage is seen in long term. So we need to create a behavioral change that encourages all kind of miners to replace what they destroy in the process of mining by creating an economically advantageous route when they replace their destruction because small and medium scale miners are one of the major players in deforestation and since everyone has the right to use the resource of their surrounding, it is very hard to limit how much they can mine. This project will create a system or an ideology leading to behavioral change that ensures replacement of damaged natural resources when people work to generate profit from an area where the natural resource is located. This will lead as a basis for creation of responsibility in the mind of medium and small scale miners or anyone who uses natural resource of the world to replace what they destroy to gain profit.

Our Proposal

This will lead to a concept that states destruction of natural resource like tree in one place mean construction of the same natural resource in another place at least by the same volume. This concept will balance the destruction and construction of the natural resource creating balanced ecosystem. A balanced ecosystem will lead to insurance of the well being of the bio diversity. Meaning when small scale miners cut down trees to get valuable minerals from the land where the tree was located, they must plant same amount of tree in some other place and this trees are tagged with identity that can display the name and address of the person who planted the tree. This means any damage the tagged tree may encounter is the responsibility of the one who planted the tree same as adopting a child. Currently there is no way tracing who planted a specific tree and when we see a tree being cut down or dead, we just do not feel responsible. But imagine you have a tree that you are responsible for and that tree can be traced back to you by displaying your name and address just like your kid. You will protect that tree no matter the cost not just because you adopted it but because other people can see the status of that tree and judges you when they see the tag on that tree which will be used to identify you. Also if people see the tree is private property of someone, it is more difficult to harm than a tree that has no owner.

Constraints to Overcome

This project will create responsibility and balance the work of the miners. The tagging mechanism will be done in two ways. The first one is creating organized tree planting filed that have raw and columns that will be used to create an x-y coordinate system to know which tree belong to who. The second system is a tagging mechanism that display the name and address of the owner. Currently there is no way tracing who planted a specific tree and when we see a tree being cut down or dead, we just do not feel responsible. This project will fill this constraint by creating a behavioral change with behavioral economics. In the future, all people will join the movement like students who apply to universities must adopt at least one tree and as long as they are in that university, they must take care of their planted tree, employees of companies or organization must adopt at least one tree as long as they are employed and so on.

Current Work

The primary work tasks and activities over the next 3-6 months will be building a quality prototype and demonstrate the concept to the general public.
